First post here. My previous owner had put one of those white tape things where tile floor meets the bathtub. I took it out and noticed that grout was used where floor tiles meet the bathtub and the grout is cracking, coming off. Reading here, it seems silicone should have been used, which I am planning to do. I would assume I would need to take out the existing grout before I do so? If that is the case, how do I go about taking the grout? Use oscillating tool?

Remove the loose grout, then chip out the rest gently with a putty knife or 5in1 and some light taps with a hammer. I'd worry about a power tool getting out of control and damaging the tile or the tub.

Put some painters tape down on either side of the gap, put in your silicone sealant, and peel up the paint.

A cheap hand tile saw will work fine.
Make sure to vacuum out and loose pieces and wipe both surfaces with rubbing Alcohol to clean it.

I think Joe's talking about using a small tile grout saw to help remove the grout. I would use color matched caulking made that comes in either sanded or unsanded versions, depending on what type of grout you're using.
