How far should the side walls extend beyond the shower receptor when framing in for it? Plan to tile from receptor to ceiling and replace the arch that was over the old tub area/new receptor area.
Size of shower receptor is 30"x60".
Thanks.

walls

We have to build the end walls for the shower receptor because it is only 60 inches long, and the total space is 74inches. We have to "box it in" in other words. So how deep do we make the side/end walls of the shower box? Sorry I didn't explain well the first time! :)

Usually the width of the wall must be at least 1 1/2" wider than the width of the pan.

You need enough room for a bull nose tile.

If you have a tile picked out make sure that the tile cut will look good there.---
Remember the actual wall width will be 1/2" wider with the drywall on the end.

One other thought on the framing-----make sure that you have a stud placed where the shower door will be attached---

And some horizontal blocking for safety grab rails(even if you don't want them now,it's just good planing for the future.
