Furnace is 6 years old, have had chronic problems with fresh air feed on outside of house developing snow/frost/ice blockage, shutting down furnace until cleaned out. Have also had one occasion where 30 amp fuse popped. Have always gotten furnace to restart following corrective action. HOWEVER, this time I let my temper get the best of me, and I cut the fresh air pipe just ahead of the 90 degree elbow going into basement wall.
2 questions: 1) Is there a mandatory length and number of elbows the fresh air intake must be? With the reduction in pressure that should occur by removing length and elbows, do I cause another problem with pressure measurement? If not, I can put a screen over the newly created end to keep the critters out. (BTW, the approx. 18" of pvc I cut off was nearly frozen solid with thick frost.)
- and - 2) Is "manual reset" a matter of shutting off all power to furnace and then repowering? Is there a minimum period the system must be shut down for reset to occur? Blogs say system should reset itself in three hours, and I'm 1.5 hours into that waiting period now. Thanks for any input.
2 hours into system auto reset period. Should have mentioned that the furnace is in "heat" setting, with fan in "auto". Fan continues to run nonstop. Expect it to shut down and restart itself within the 3 hour period described elsewhere
