I am going to be removing the lighter colored carpeting which is glued down, and replacing it with another carpet, which I also plan to glue down. This is in my hallway to the bedrooms.

Can anyone identify from the photo how the darker carpeting is terminated on the edge? It stands higher than the other carpet and appears that the end is rolled over and possibly stapled. I want to avoid disturbing this when removing the old carpet if possible, and then make a decent transition. The new carpet is a cut pile.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Its hard to tell but the darker carpet may have padding underneath which would be one reason why its higher. Is there a reason that you're using glue instead of padding and tack strips? You may find it a challenge to match the new pile carpet with the existing darker one because of the wear on the brown carpet and the pile thickness may be different.

Yes, the darker carpet does appear to have a pad underneath it.

I've never laid carpet before and gluing down the carpet sounds much easier than doing tack strips. It's just for a 36" wide hallway. There is no pad there right now and it really doesn't need one IMO.
