Carpet over hardwood floors

I have beautiful oak hardwood floors with carpeting installed over them.

I want professional carpet cleaning done. Deep hot water extraction as I understand it.

There is carpet pad under the carpet. I am told the floors will not be damaged because the pad does not get wet. I am skeptical.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Appreciate your advice.

Sounds like very good advice.

I am contemplating Stanley Steemer which has a good reputation locally. I assume their equipment is adequate.

What is adequate equipment?
