Carpet over hardwood floors

1916 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Bob Mariani
I have beautiful oak hardwood floors with carpeting installed over them.

I want professional carpet cleaning done. Deep hot water extraction as I understand it.

There is carpet pad under the carpet. I am told the floors will not be damaged because the pad does not get wet. I am skeptical.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Appreciate your advice.

If you are using a professional cleaner with adequate equipment you will not have any problems. With a DIY rental machine you will not only not clean the carpet but ruin the padding and the floors.
Theirs are fine. The issue is that low end rental equipment is not powerful enough to remove most all of the water while cleaning, leaving the carpets too wet. They should only be damp when they are done. Nothing with wood feet should be placed back on the carpet for at least 24 hours. These will stain the carpet.
