I have a John Deer D105 riding tractor. I thought the battery may have died and tried a new one with no luck. It clicks over for a second but the engine doesnt turn. I can jump the tractor off my car battery and it starts.

Any thoughts on what might be causing this?

When you jump it off, do you go straight to your starter to fire it up? If so your solenoid is probably bad or you have a bad connection at the battery.

Dead new battery, poor connection, bad solenoid.

No i go battery to battery. Im going to check all connections today

All my connections are tight, my positive termial bolt and nut are pretty corroded, I am going to clean that up, but from everything I have researched and the advice here, it looks like the solenoid.

Corroded positive cable? BINGO.

Clean that off, use a battery cleaning brush.

And some Baking soda water mixture, careful do not splash this stuff about, it mixed with the acid corrosion will wreak havoc on your clothing, eyes VERY IMPORTANT, and hands.

It ended up being the alternator. Easier fix then changing the battery
