Just wondering if I can get away with using pvc cement instead of buying something new

Also: PVC cement is for PVC pipes and fittings, not for gas fittings.

Please back away from the gas line. Do not touch it, do not go near it. Seriously, stay the hell away from it and call someone who knows what they're doing.

If threads need lubrication and you drive a car you'll always have thread lube. It comes off the dip stick as drops and all that's needed is 2 or 3 of those drops.

CBOVA..... Everyone here really encourages DIY and learning....EXCEPT when working with gas and/or electricity...there is a lot of real DANGER.

Honestly....this very likely is not a job to start to learn on....

Tell/explain more to us as to what you are doing. I think we all thought you were using it on the fitting.....maybe just the threads....but you don't want, or should not need, any thread lube or thread lock.?????????

Thanks everyone I promise this is my last attempt at this, will be super careful and if I still can't get it to work I'll call someone. Just curious now though I found rectorseal no. 5 pipe sealant and was wondering what that would be for if not flare nuts?

Rector Seal is for pipe fittings, not flare fittings. No sealant needed on flare fittings.

It's difficult to help when we don't know for certain what the problem is. Can you be just a little more specific ?
