Recently had a water heater leak and mitigation took out some drywall around the WH and Washer & Dryer. The WH closet is 33" x 49". I'd like to place a GFI outlet on the far inside wall near the doorway to power my Wi-FI sprinkler unit (24 volt). When placed, the GFI would be approximately 32" from the WH casing. Is this alright?

Thanks

Ok thanks... One more question, If you look at the corner receptacle you'll notice that it's not a GFI outlet (which it probably should be since it's right next to where the WM goes). I'm thinking of removing it, capping the receptacle wires and covering it with a metal plate.

Is it legal to drywall over a sealed metal box as long as it's secured to the framing?

All your receptacles in the basement should be GFCI protected, either from a GFCI breaker or a GFCI receptacle in the first location and the remainder taken from the LOAD side of the receptacle.

Makes sense... I'll leave it accessible for the drywall installers. I discovered I have 2 faulty GFCI outlets. Can I connect two regular 20A receptacles to the GFCI I'll replace?

(I'm running a standard Washer & Dryer there so the extra GFCI seems redundant)
