Hello All,

First time here and I have a question. I have purchased 12"X12" mesh backed glass mosaic tiles (1 inch each) to be installed on an entire wall in my bathroom. The wall currently is primed drywall. Can I install directly to that wall or is there an other prep step I need to do?

Hi Jen,

Tile can go over wallboard as long as it's not a wet area. What adhesive were you planning to us for these glass mosaics? Glass tiles are very finicky, what does the maker say?

I've purchased the following:

Versabond fortified thin-set mortar in white and Thinset mortar admix to use in place of water.

Think that'll be OK?

NO. You do not use additive with modified thinsets. You mix them just like it tells you on the bag. :thumbsup:

If you insist on spending more money, get a better thinset. Although Versabond will work for most projects, it is an entry-level quality product. Nothing to brag about. What's an extra 10 bucks?

What do you suggest for thinset? Can I get this at my local home improvement store? Do you think I should nail through the mesa once adhered to keep it in place while drying?

You do not need to nail through the mesh to keep the tile in place. The thinset will do that as long as you make sure the tile is imbedded into the thinset. After you place the sheet, use a grout float to tamp the sheet in place. After you tamp it, check to see if it has shifted and make any adjustments you need to.
