Hi All,

I am in the process of adding to the existing R-11 insulation with R-30 into the attic. The roof is constructed of trusses and I have an air conditioning air handler in the attic and I need to provide a platform for maintenance over the new insulation so that; a) they have a place to stand and b) they do not smash down the insulation.
I would like to nail a 2x4 horizontally to the side of the truss which would be across a couple of web components of a truss and another 2x4 on the opposing side of the adjacent truss and nail some planks between. This would be about 10" up from the existing bottom cord. Would this cause any issues with structural integrity? Is there a different method that I should be considering instead. I live in south Florida.
