I have a 3"-4" radiator pipe with a T fitting that has a 1 1/4" fitting coming off the T. Well I was in the process of moving a radiator and I was really cranking on the pipe. Sure thing I broke a piece of the threading off from the 1 1/4" T. 3/4s of the threading are still intact. The system is for hot water heat. So my question is can I weld a fitting in place? Some people have suggested JB weld. Any suggestions are much appreciated. Removing the large T fitting is pretty much out of the question due to its location in the pipe system. Thank you.

My first suggestion would be to dope-slap the guy who said to use JB Weld. Next, I'd say try to re-tap the threads on the branch of the tee. You can probably rent an 1 1/4" pipe tap. If that doesn't work, google "dresser couplings".

Edited to add: This is obviously an old steam system that's been converted to forced hot water, so there's no need for the pipes to be so big. You can cut that 3" (or 4") header and unscrew the pipe(s) at the nearest fittings (sometimes easier said than done - lots of heat and a couple of 4' pipe wrenches would help). Then screw in black malleable bushings that'll get you down to a more reasonable size (like 1 1/4", or 1 1/2") and reconnect the header in copper.

Thank you for the advice and I will be sure to slap the person that suggested jb weld. Do you think there is enough thread left where I could just screw a new fitting in? My understanding is there is not a lot of pressure in these systems so maybe the fitting does not need a lot to grip. Would that be a correct assumption? Thanks again.
