Hi - I have several MR16 halogen recessed lights in my basement. Every one is broken by now. I have purchase new bulbs, tried LED bulbs, but no luck. One will turn on for a couple seconds, then turn off, but most don't do anything (i just hear a low hum from the transformer). They are 4 inch recessed 12v, 50w and i attached picture of what i have.

Since they seem to be broken, should i just replace the whole thing with a LED fixture? Or would a retrofit kit work - or are there potentially issues with the current fixture that will still be an issue? Just want to have to fix it once, so if that means a whole new fixture, so be it.

I am just replacing mine with these slim ones similar to this.

Most likely your problem is the socket. They get loose inside and do not make contact with the bulb pins. You can buy new sockets with a wire pigtail. Cut the old wires and splice the new one onto the fixture wire. Very common problem.
