I am putting in a fireplace which dictates that I need to brick up a window. All pretty easy stuff except I cannot get an exact match for the bricks. Teh options I have are

1. Get the best match possible and hope it looks ok.
2. Brick it up and then bag\render it.
3. Some genius has another imaginitive idea :)

I am concerned on the look. The house is only 6 years old (single veneer) and I feel taht both options 1 and 2 could dreadfull if not done right.

Does anyone have any advice (I can provide pics if needed)

Many thanks

Agree with Bill. I put on a kitchen addition to a 60 year old house and the mason had no trouble matching the bricks. The mortar was a little, "brighter", but in time it will blend in fine.

Personally, I would search harder for the brick if your only 6 years out. As a mason who does alot of patches, I have a lot of local avenues to search for match brick. Sometimes though, it can take as much time to get your hands on the brick as it does to tooth & relay the opening in.

One other thought also. Are you sure you need to get rid of the window totally, or can you install a stationary/non-opening unit?

6 year old brick should be able to be found, unless the brick manufacturer went out of business. Talk to a brick salesman. Are you going to patch the window to make it look like it was never there? Or is there an arch or sill that you can leave? Many times trying to match the brick is not the way to go. I have worked on my projects where the old brick was not available and trying to match with what was available would look like hell. So instead the architect decided another brick that went well with the old brick. What I am saying is that if there is a sill, arch, or anything to define the window, leave it and infill with a brick that compliments the old brick.
