Hello I'm a newbie and I wanted to do some paint stripping of the brick walls

To my discovery there is this strange white crystallized outgrowth from the walls

1. What is that stuff??

2. How do I strip the paint off of brick

Thanks DIY Community! :batman:

Inside of a basement?
If so sure looks like someone had the mistaken idea leaks can be stopped from the inside, never going to happen.
That bubbling paint and effervescence as mentioned is from water coming in through the wall.
This needs to be addressed on the outside.
No way would I even attempt to get all that old paint off.
A safe stripper like Safety Strip, Peel Away, or a soy or citrus based stripper would do it but a huge labor and expense to just clean up a poorly done leaking brick wall.

You can have effloresence even if you don't have actual water leaking through. It does mean there is some water dissolving the chemicals in the concrete. It is a sign for potential. There is nothing in the market to stop it.
If you don't like that wall, you can cover with pvc or plastic panels, hang from joists and lightly glued to wall.
