I need to break up a 40x8 driveway. It's four inches thick. I have a guy coming out to regrade the yard for sod. He said he would also regrade the driveway, since it is broken and at an angle. He doesn't do concrete removal. I was planning on hiring a couple of day laborers to do the job and then have a professional concrete company form and pour the new driveway.

I have a dumpster already on my lot. I'm guessing the driveway would way a lot. The dumpster company didn't say there are any overages for weight, but he did ask me what I was putting in it and specifically asked about concrete. I didn't have plans to put any concrete in it at the time.

What's the best way to get rid of the concrete? I've heard that there are concrete recycling centers. I could also try to find a guy on craigslist that will break it up and haul it away.

Best way to do it....hire it out. It is back breaking work.

I am not sure what guys are charging on the recycling end of things but it isn't free. Still might be some of the best money you have ever spent and there are normally dumpster weight limits and charges per ton over. You should be able to call the dumpster guy and see what you are good up to on weight and calculate the weight of the driveway based on average cubic feet.

That would be over 14,220 Lb. of concrete.
Craig's List would be last place I'd be looking for someone to do this.
Need a real dump truck, high lift skid loader, or bucket loader, walk behind concrete saw or
Hydrolic jack hammer.

Ayuh,.... I bet that'll be a 'ell of a story, especially dependin' on the amount of steel used in the pour,.....

I agree, an 8 ton class track-hoe, 'n a dump truck,...

A couple hours work,....
