I am trying to think if the following closet door installation is a good idea with a floating floor (vinyl planks specifically, but I do not think that would matter). I am looking a mirror closet door with a bottom track that the door rides on. One of the images attached shows the bottom track image from the product page.

Can something like this be installed together with floating flooring? I have not received any response from the manufacturer sales, so they are of zero help. Of course, I would not be screwing the track to the flooring planks because they cannot be screwed down. I was thinking something more like the other attached image, where the track rests on wooden center support and is screwed into it (and by extension into the subfloor below). This additional support would raise the track to the level of the floor planks. The floor planks would be left with the required ¼ inch of space between them and the base of the track. The image is not to scale but represents the general idea. The edges of the track would of course have to rest on the floor planks so there is no visible seam.

Does this make any sense or am I just totally off track :)vs_laugh:)?

It follows the rule about the expansion gap but you want enough flooring covered under the tracks in case the floor moves enough to slip out of the track edges. Use ply for "wood" so it doesn't split later. Since you know where the track will go, you could precut the track, with jamb thickness in mind for the holes if jamb later, and take out bigger holes in the vinyl panels so they can move around the screws? Even if glass doors, weight shouldn't matter. Furnitures don't matter. Snug the screws and adjust later if not enough.

I would put it down with 3M emblem mounting tape like used on cars. I put chrome strips on cars with it when I can’t get fasteners. It holds up to wind, weather, salt, car washes, everything. It will hold that strip down permanently.

What about drilling a 1" hole in the flooring under the track. Screws would go into the subfloor but the floating floor would be able to expand.
The holes would be covered by the track.
