Sticking with the rules of no drilling within nMddle third of span and drilling hole size 1/3rd depth doesn't matter to me since I am only drilling 1/2inch holes in center of depth. Is there any code related to hole or cable spacing withing the joists?

Nope, nothing in the code addresses the proximity of holes. It comes down to the fact that holes that are spaced closely or grouped together essentially cause the joist to perform as though one big hole was drilled in it. The best advice you can get is to leave at least a couple inches of wood (preferably more) between holes.

1/2" holes are pretty small and it would take a lot of them in one general area to compromise a joist.

Usually what I have seen when dealing with TJI or floor joist is take the size of the hole you're drilling and double it from the edge of one hole to the next. So a 1/2" hole would need 1" from the edge of the first hole to the next. I have read many articles from our local building inspectors when wiring houses.

I checked my IRC 2000 and it does not prohibit drilling small holes all the way up the center of a stud.
This many holes would weaken the stud's resistance to buckling in at least one of two horizontal directions, but since nobody does this there is no prohibition in the code.

So, what I get from this is that codes do not address every conceivable situation if they are unlikely to occur.

Ok, Thanks for the replies. I guess it is what I thought that there is no code on that just common sense. Yeah I wasn't going to string them together that close just 3-4 holes spaced at 2 inches. Thanks again for all the replies.
