Okay guys I got new work boots steel toe no laces. They fit fine in store but after a long day my big toes are bruised. My question is, if I keep working in then will it just be like shoveling how at first it hurts hands but you develop calluses after a while and it doesn't hurt? There is no way I can get new boots anytime soon so suggestions will be nice. I was able to put up with the bruising while doing work (they were previously bruised from horrible fitting boots I replaced) they are little more bruised than before but not too much worse I can put up with it mostly but I'm just wondering will my feet adapt to it?

I'm sure you'll hear there is a break in period for boots as well as shoes. I've found that not true and ill fitting foot wear has caused people a lot of misery, especially later in life. So no, in my opinion it won't get better.

Well I've tried on many boots before 11 1/2 wide twelve twelve wide 12 1/2 and 12 1/2 wide they all give me this problem

If they weren't steel toed boots, I'd say wear them around the house and everywhere you go and they'll get worked in. But that steel toe isn't gonna stretch one iota.

I bought a really expensive pair of steel toed boots many years ago. They felt great at the store. I wore them to work for one full day. After an hour I knew they were doing something horrible to my toes and it hurt so bad it was virtually unbearable. But being at work, there was nothing I could do.

Got home, took them off and realized they'd pretty much shaved close to an 1/8" of flesh off my toes. Insides of the boots were covered in blood. Couldn't return them. Paid so much for them I couldn't bare to just throw them out until this year. I think I kept them for close to eight or nine years!:plain:

Sorry, you need new shoes. Like a concrete bench, you can sit there, wear them all day long, you won't warm that bench and you won't break-in steel toes.

I have wide feet. My occasionally worn steel toes from your typical store are one size bigger, the only ones in the stores that didn't rub. They really aren't good enough to wear for a living.

I suggest you go the the nearest Redwing store and seek out the best sales person. You'll pay more than you desire and won't regret it.

I like Mason boots best, cheap boots lasted me about 3 months, Mason boots lasted me 3 years also B.A. Mason boots about the same. I tried several other brand name boots but these were the best for me. Don't know about steel toed boots, only owned one pair and that was so long ago I don't remember much about them.

Regarding steel toe boots, I buy a size larger and buy them before I actually need them. Then I break in by only wearing a few hours or 1/2 day at a time. Also my steel toes are not steel but composite. Lighter than steel but still meet OSHA requirements. Made by Carolina.
Sore feet makes for a long day!
Good luck

If a store did the fitting I'd go back with bandages on my feet. A good store will not want you walking around in poorly fitted boots. Ditto on the Red Wing, but other quality brands should be able to fit you correctly.

We have/had several mills in our area and they all sent their employees to the local RW store. From your description you need to get new boots and from a store that will know how to fit you. I haven't needed steel toes for quite awhile, but the composite sounds like a winner.

I'm inclined to agree with those who say the steel toes are probably a deal killer for breaking in.
Personally I've never owned steel toe boots and never will. I realize some/many employers may require them.

Thanks for all the suggestions. My stepdad has exact same boots same size and a year old and are broken in well and I wore them once no problem and just realized they are the same. So I'll just break these in and go from there. The bruising pain is no big deal because I'm constantly when wearing them doing something to distract the mind of sitting down

Just wanted to say I took out the insoles that come in them and they fit perfectly but thanks for advice guys

And it's not employer requirement I refuse to do the work I was doing without them. When the guy "too cool for boots" broke four toes I now remember why I only do work in steel toe

Every situation is different. I worked in roofing and when you do a cedar tear off on spaced boards the whole roof becomes a ladder as long as you don't have steel toes because they are too fat to squeeze in the gaps.

My Dad told me a story about when he was doing construction decades ago and some guy he was working with got his steel toe boots crushed when something heavy fell on them. Bent the steel right into his toes. Can't remember the details, but I seem to remember Dad saying they had to cut the boots off or something. I guess the alternative would be that the object would have simply crushed his toes completely or removed them.

That's what I am using now. They felt great in the store, but after a week, it felt like I had a pencil under the arch of my feet. The insole that came with them flattened out and lost all of its cushion. I replaced the insoles with something different and have been wearing them for about year without any complaints.
