painted cabinet door got punched.
door is 2 layers with hollow space between.
outside layer has big hole.

would bondo be good enough to patch and level these holes without cracking?

I would need to see the damage--without that --yes---bondo is often used for wood repair and should work for this one----

well, i don't have pictures, but cross section diagram below. It's at my rental property.

but you can imagine 1/4" plywood caved into a 1/2" hollow space, while the 1/4" wood behind it is still intact.
Hole is size of fist.

Is 1/2" deep ok to fill?

I suggest you try the product that Joe linked to---Durhams Water putty----

Bondo sets up very hard and will work---but Durhams works very well and is easier to sand---

Your choice-----
