There are areas in my living room where you can feel thorugh the carpet floor boards that really seem to be giving. My landlord has put down a 4 X 8 3/8 ply as a temorary solution until boilder shuts down in the spring.....can it collapse...

How would we know without even a picture of what's under that floor?
What differance does it make if a boiler is running or not?
