A few months ago I had a damaged sewer pipe replaced with a new cast iron pipe. Everything's been good, except lately I've noticed a black oily substance leaking from the lead and oakum joints. I've had a bucket under it, and it's caught quite a bit.

I asked someone from the plumbing company that did the replacement and was assured that it's normal.

Here are some pictures. This doesn't seem like it should be normal to me. Any opinions?

I'd say you have a cracked hub- possibly the length of the pup.
Time for a warranty call. And don't let them smear some kind of sealant on it
