My first laser level. $150 dewalt - 2 lines only. I see that there is a "line enhancing card" which looks like just a red plastic. Is it just a red plastic? Make one with a cardboard and red paint? Do not want to spend another chunk on real detectors. When used outside, will be mostly for siding and less than 40' lines. Thank you in advance.

I have a rotary laser and during daylight it is difficult. It came with a red something like you describe but never got the hang of it. Mine has a detector which i hold against a measuring pole. But, when I need a line during the day, with this or one of my other laser tools, I use them when it is dusk. Not convenient, but I CAN SEE THE LINE.

All I can suggest is practice.

I cannot see my red rotary laser beam in bright light either.

There are several alternate routes you may want to consider:
1) Purchase a receiver for your model laser.
2) If outdoors use during dusk or dawn or dark (not always practical).
3) Purchase a green beam laser which can bee seen in the daytime (best in non rotating mode) .

I bought and gave away two if those less expensive lasers.
I had a mason on site one time and he had a self leveling laser on his truck and offered to set grade for the whole house for free.
This was a 100 year old house that had been added on to on all sides three different times and all where at different heights.
He had the whole house marked in less then 1/2 hour.
Want to save money and not want to do it the fast easy way then look into a water level.

I also have the rotary. When I need to use it in daylight conditions I turn off the rotary function and direct the laser beam to a specific spot. Mark it and move. Once you have some level marks chalk line it.

When the laser is stopped and directed at a target its much easier to pick up.

Think the only time the rotary is worth a crap is indoors with the lights off

I think my rotary also has red glasses, but the detector worked fine outside in the daylight. Only wish I had purchased the self leveling model as keeping the bubbles perfect is a pain. But even with that is saved a bunch of time. The pad I was leveling was 70x100 and you can't pull a mason line tight enough to do that job, and it's slow.
