See attached. I want to paint the beams white and the rest of the ceiling with the same paint so they match. I got some quotes and they range from $1500-2100 so looks like I'll be doing it myself. The peak is about 11' down to about 8' so I need some type of ladder and/or scaffolding. Rolling would be quickier, I was thinking the smaller roller for the beams and then a poll with a roller for the ceiling. Thoughts?

I cant make out if there is popcorn on that ceiling or not. Kind of looks that way on the right pic. If so, I'd mask off the walls, cover the floor prime the beams and spray everything with flat oil base.
I seldom roll popcorn, especially if it hasn't been painted previously. If you decide to brush/roll, use a 20mm sleeve.
If the ceiling is smooth, one section of scaffolding (rent if you don't have it and you're painting with brush/roller) would make things easy to work from, but then i don't know if you have ladders/planks that work well enough for that little job.
A 9inch roller is all you need. No use having 2 diff size rollers going, if you decide to DIY

It's not popcorn, it's textured so not flat but not super textured either.

Why oil?

What should I set aside for time, what would it take a professional and what would it take me? Is this a day, two days, two weekend job?

In that case use your latex of choice. If it hasn't been painted yet, prime everything, then 2 coats of finish.
Cant tell you what it would or should take a pro, since everyone has a different speed, and whether they roll or spray

Hard to tell a lot from the pics, but my guess is 1k is a steal. Not sure that low of a price wouldn't make me nervous depending on your market. A good (small) paint crew is out of there in two days at most.

I suggest you compare the details of the quotes you received to make sure it's an apples to apples comparison.

The beams are the big part of that job. There are acrylic products that could do the job probably, but I would guess many painters would be inclined to use oil for the primer on the beams at least.

Unless you have some pretty extensive DIY painting experience, my guess is you would be kicking yourself about half way through the project for not spending the grand or so.

Agree the $1000 sounds almost too low and too big a spread from the others. But remember we are looking at a pic they are there looking at the whole thing.

$1000 is a steal for sure. and that includes paint and who is moving all the furniture?? definitely do your homework before you let em in. They might just be hungry, but that is a lot of work and a couple hundred bucks or so in materials....i'm guessing its a 1 man show, maybe with a buddy (not legally covered by him), with or without a license, bond or insurance, no taxes and no L&I...hope you ha good homeowners policy...

Might be a great guy just doing a "side job"...we painters love side jobs. just do your homework. It is a lot of work for a diy..those beams alone will take a coat of primer and at least 2 coats of paint...
