We have about 10 ea. 5-6" round treated white pine posts, 23 years old, in concrete....that are leaning/rotted out. The round rails are 3". Some I have fixed with a 7-8' tee post, pounded in alongside and wired.

I see lots of repair kits...but all seem to be for square 4x4 posts. Just starting my search. What is out there for ROUND posts? I see Simpson strong tie FPBM44E for $10, which might work. They have to be pounded in between the concrete and the post..... and then screwed tight. Might be OK?

Any help is appreciated.

really the best approach is to replace the post and concrete. You can do one or two post at a time to minimize work load...say every weekend attack a couple. Once you do one or two you'll see that it's not very hard. Also, can do every other post to stabilize the fence over the span, then come back and do others as time permits.

I've done a lot this way and its easy once you do a couple. Also do not use instance fence post concrete(the kind you put dry in hole, then add water) as I find it's never as strong .....instead by the quick set fence post concrete bags you mix in a tub (easy to do a couple bags per post).

This will give you the best long term solution and in many cases is cheaper than buying gadgets that just bandaid

I too vote for replacement of the post and cement.

Those gadgets are for temporary use until a permanent replacement happens.

I thought of trying to use a Forstner bit and drilling out the center of the post, then chipping out the rest, and epoxying in a new post, but that will turn into more work than just replacing a post or two every weekend.

Thank you for the replies......Maybe I should have titled the post: EASIEST way to repair......

I did not mention this is also no-climb wire with grapevines and other hefty vines intertwined in this privacy fence. Two round rails on top of this 6' fence. It seems to me that it will be very difficult to replace both concrete and post.....with two rails on top disconnected.

Still like the idea of pounding something (pipe or rebar, etc) alongside the post and wiring or clamping to new addition. I will probably hire a handyman to do this.

Hi Ronbo......I have done nothing since 2016. I like to thoroughly research the problem before seeking a solution. In my current case.....the solution is to leave the fence posts alone and check them again in 2025. Hopefully, I will be composting in the soil and someone else will research this problem.(y):rolleyes:
