I am getting ready to replace my cedar deck rails with composite. It looks like the top and bottom rails were put together with the balusters and then nailed into the 4x4 posts. What is easisest way to reomove the rails? I have thought that I can use my skill saw to cut and then knoc the little parts off the post with a chisel.

Any other ideas?

I might have to have a better picture to be sure, but what about a reciprocating saw to cut through the nails? How about cutting the rails in half, then using the remaining leverage to pull them off?

Both of those ideas sound great. I though of cutting the rails closer to the ends, but doing it in the middle may save me time, especially on the smaller sections. Thanks!
