So I'm finding all kinds of issues I'm bringing on myself as I go. Imagine that. Here's the next one.
Quick backstory, I'm residing my house and decided to add sheathing to the walls, originally it only had foam board directly under the cedar siding.
With that in place I've now found that the original flashing is behind this sheathing. What's the best and easiest way to add flashing to the wall without pulling off the shingles?

Would it be acceptable to trim back the shingles at the wall and slid the new flashing under the existing shingles?
Any suggestions, other than saying I screwed myself :plain:, would be appreciated!

You will need to use a hook blade and cut each shingle directly in front of the zip system sheathing. Then slide metal step shingles under each shingle, starting at the bottom. You may have to pull a few nails to get them under there. Seal any nails you pull with roof sealant. Fasten the step shingle to the roof AND to the wall. Then tape the top edge of the step shingles to the zip system sheathing.

I am not a big fan of zip system. IMO using a real WRB (housewrap) is more foolproof when it comes to flashing. Time will tell.

#1, Where's the step flashing?
#2, The siding should never be that close to the shingles.
What should have been done is remove the shingles and step flashing, install the new sheathing, install the shingles and step flashing, add house wrap then the siding making sure it's at least 2" above the shingles.
