Hello, I am painting my oak kitchen cabinets a shade of green. I'm wondering what is the best paint to use at Lowe's? It has to be Lowe's because I get money added to a credit card that I can use there from my job. I'm also debating between oil and latex. Thanks.

I don't know, I've always disliked the heavy grain of Oak. If the cabinets were maple, I might consider leaving the natural wood. I'm also replacing a couple door fronts with glass and even adding a chalk board on the side of one boxes. It will have a very modern look to it. If styles change, I'll be doing something else later on...

You do realize the heavy grain will show through paint as well unless extra steps are taken to fill it. I'm working on a set of oak cabinets now that are getting grain filled, painted and glazed. There are a few different ways to fill the grain, but just paint won't do it. Btw, I don't like oak either.
Now you have me confused. The cabinets have a very smooth, gloss finish with a heavy grain pattern. I plan on using a deglosser, primer, and a good paint. What is going to show through?
