I don't know, I've always disliked the heavy grain of Oak. ..

You do realize the heavy grain will show through paint as well unless extra steps are taken to fill it. I'm working on a set of oak cabinets now that are getting grain filled, painted and glazed. There are a few different ways to fill the grain, but just paint won't do it. Btw, I don't like oak either.

Now you have me confused....... What is going to show through?

The grain pattern of the oak.

I don't mean to say it looks bad, just don't expect the grain to disappear with painting alone. It still shows through when your up close.
