Oak is timeless. The color you choose for your cabinets will be outdated long before the bare wood look will be.Have to go with what is currently in style according to my wife and Pinterest!![]()
Every time a piece of oak is painted, a woodworker somewhere in the world cries a little.OH LORD. Another set of oak cabinets bite the dust.

Now you have me confused. The cabinets have a very smooth, gloss finish with a heavy grain pattern. I plan on using a deglosser, primer, and a good paint. What is going to show through? You do realize the heavy grain will show through paint as well unless extra steps are taken to fill it. I'm working on a set of oak cabinets now that are getting grain filled, painted and glazed. There are a few different ways to fill the grain, but just paint won't do it. Btw, I don't like oak either.
Another vote for leave them alone. This is what I've got:

Agreed. Oak and brass, out. Maple and brushed nickel and stainless, in. Or white and antique bronze.I don't know, I've always disliked the heavy grain of Oak. If the cabinets were maple, I might consider leaving the natural wood.
