My bedroom has straightforward electrical, with a single switch controling power to a closet light (which has a pullswitch) and an overhead fan with light. What I'd like to do is create a dedicated wall switch for the closet, independent of bedroom light switch. The good news (I think) is that the closet switch would only be about 3 feet away from the bedroom switch, on the opposite side of the wall (inside the closet).
My question is what the easiest way would be to get power to the closet switch, and how to wire it. The bedroom wall switch box has a 14-3 coming into the top and a 14-2 exiting the bottom. I broke a piece of drywall (approx. 24" x24") out where I'd like the closet switch to go for good access in the closet.

I've lived with a closet light switch inside the closet too many years to change now but if it were to be done again it would be a door operated switch.

One might say, why not change it now? Well, my electrical experiences have been rather shocking so it's not gonna happen.

Attic above. I was hoping to somehow just go horizontal from the bedroom switch but it's tight access, never fished a line sideways, if it can even be done. Probably a junction box in the attic and just drop it down. Ah well, no easy solution. Appreciate the responses. Stay tuned for exciting updates (and basic questions), as this simple job is sure to be mangled by yours truly!

The 14/2 from below sounds like your line power. If you do all the splices in that box, it will be crowded. But who knows, could be do-able.

You don't need a junction box in the attic -- just fish it down to the switch box from the attic, staple it in the attic, and fish it down to the new closet switch. Be careful where you drill - make sure in both locations you are within the stud walls.
