I'm building a new patio covering and wondering if anyone has suggestions for cutting 6x6 and 6x10 lumber. I need to cut the 6x6 posts down to size, and also need to cut angles on the ends of the header and rafters. See the attached image.

As far as I can tell, the only saw big enough to make cuts that deep in one pass is this beam saw from Makita. Not worth buying for one project and I'm not sure if anyone locally rents it:

I cut it with a cirular saw on both sides, finish the cut with a sawsall then hit it with a belt sander.

We usually keep a 10 1/4" circ saw around.
they do cost a fair chunk of change and if you are only going to use it once you are better off just cutting all the way around with a regular 7 1/4" saw and then finishing with a reciprocating saw.
I am not trying to pimp this particular brand makita and a few others make them as well. There is also a 14" circular saw made by "big foot"

If you think the Makita is expensive, price out a Mafell.

I would be doing the cut from both sides and finish it off with a handsaw or a sawzall.

Check to see if there are any Timber Framers Guild members in your area and approach them to borrow the tool or possibly get them to cut the pieces.
