My house is 70+ years old and has 3" wide bead board for the ceiling. Some rooms it's covered with drywall and some have a fiber tile style of material stapled to it. The drywall parts are old and damaged and the tile parts have been water damaged in the past, leaving them warped and unsightly. I was considering just removing the covering and leaving the old board as the ceiling, but that would be a horrible air seal as far as insulation, correct? Should I take it down and reuse it in another application and replace with plywood/drywall? I am thinking in terms of stopping conditioned air from leaving through the ceiling. I plan on air sealing the attic and re-insulating later this year, just wanting opinions on whether to change the ceiling while I'm renovating? The old school board is nice and would look great as a wall covering, but as a ceiling?
