Hi, I am getting ready to redo my upstairs bathroom. I'm going to tear out the tub and do a tile shower. My plan is to tile the entire 3 x 8 shower space to the ceiling. So do I need to run the cement board all the way to the ceiling or do I just put it where the old tub was??

Just where the tub was is fine----

I do suggest that you water proof the new board with a paint on waterproofing like Red Guard or a surface membrane like Kerdi----

Any thing above the shower head will never get wet enough to worry about---

You might want to take it down to the ceiling. When I tore out my fiberglass tubs I found the drywall had been shimmed out so it laid flat over the tub flange. It may also be easier to lay the tile over a common flat surface vs possibly having a difference due to the thickness of the cement board and drywall.
