Hi All! I need some ideas.. I am currently deciding on having my bathroom renovated, how long will I be without a bathroom if I do push through with the project? Is it better to have a shower and a bath tub?

Welcome to "DIY"!

How extensive a remodel? -
Plumbing and/or electric to be re-worked? -
The type of wall and floor treatments to be used? -
Tile? - how much and what kind? -
Drywall/plaster to be removed? -
Any framing to be re-done? -
Existing tub to be removed? -
Is this the only bathroom in the house? -
Just some things to consider! :)

Thank you for responding! I don't really know yet if it will be renovated whole, or just a few. I didn't know that it's very hard to decide on this. My friend is also giving me ideas. But I want other ideas and can learn, and then pursue what I think is best..

Try to do as much planning, before you start.
Try to have everything you think you're going to need - on site.

Plan out what you want to do.
Then figure out how much it is going to cost and how long it should take you.
Double both of those.
X4 on the time if you are new to DIY.

Maybe I'm joking a little bit, but not really.
Be prepared to find an ugly surprise on a bathroom gut job, especially if it has been decades since anything has been done to it.

Not trying to scare you, just want you to be prepared.
As others said, we'd need more info to even make a guesstimate of how long it would take. What's the size of the bathroom, current layout, what do you have now, what do you want, is the basement sitting on a slab or wood subfloor, etc. etc. etc. As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words. First off wouldn't hurt posting up a picture if you want input/ideas from some folks, otherwise we don't have a clue with what you're really working with. If you're looking for ideas for your bathroom, check out houzz.com There are a wide range of styles and designs that you can copy ideas from.

It sounds like you have a decent sized bathroom if you have space for a tub and shower.. If you did a complete gut job and redo, bare minimum the bathroom would likely be out of commission at minimum a month for a DIYer.
