I'm calling this a mini facelift, as it was just paint and some re-finishing.
We made the vanity, countertop, medicine cabinets and the
perfume cabinet and storage cabinet below the perfume cabinet
several years ago. Its all white QS oak. The only thing we purchased
is a new high toilet. Everything else was on hand, paint and
elbow grease.
The countertop,( that we made several years ago) we inlaid
walnut and maple strips. We came very close to replacing the
sink and counter with granite, but the head knot loves the
counter top and worked so hard making it. It's five quarter
thick QS white oak wood.
The tongue and groove walls and ceiling were done in 1985.
Over the years the cedar darkened, and the bathroom began
to look too dark.
I thought about this a lot...how to update without trashing
what we already had, as I liked the cabinets and tile, however,
the countertop stained dark to match the cabinets and the dark walls,
it began to be cave-like.
I told a friend we were doing this, and he said we should replace
the sink, cause an hex sink is dated. I love the sink cause it's so
big, great for hand washables.... it's a 30 year old Kohler cast iron sink, it doesn't have a scratch or dent in it, so why change it, besides if we changed
it, the counter would have to go...
The biggest improvement was the new light countertop and the light
walls.
Sometime this winter we're hoping to re-do the stained glass in the
medicine cabinets.
We went from dreary to nice and cheery.
