Bathroom Ceiling Paint - 9 foot

603 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  cocomonkeynuts
Our current ceiling is a semi gloss and we have removed the wall paper and are wanting to refresh/paint the ceiling.

I understand that in wet or high moisture areas, like a bathroom, that semi gloss is the preferred finish.

I see that Zinsser offers a flat that offers stain resistance and is mold and mildew resistant.

So what should I use? Thoughts?

Thanks

It needs to be a latex enamel, doesn't have to be semi-gloss. The ceiling in my full bath is only 7' and I painted it with Zinnser's PermaWhite satin. That was about 1.5yr ago and it still looks great.

Most any latex enamel [any sheen] will work fine although a bath rm paint is better.

Basically, you want to avoid cheap flat in a bathroom, even though though it is commonly used and usually with no problems. a High quality washable flat or matte will work just fine. Its more important to make sure your ventilation is good. The only time mildew is ever a problem in a bathroom is due to inadequate ventilation. That, plus cheap flat paint= problems. If its an old house and everything fogs up when you take a shower, you might want to go the extra mile with a dedicated bathroom enamel. If its a big bathroom, and the fart fan works great, and you dotn see fog after a shower, you can pretty much use whatever you want. I'd still avoild cheap flat though. YOu cant go wrong with at least eggshell.

Thanks guys!
Aura Bath & Spa. The resin used is hydrophobic once cured and very moisture resistant.
