bath vent location ? --- PICTURE ADDED

Hi and thanks,
We have started to gut a bedroom that will soon be a bath and I am trying to understand the plumbing challenges this will create.

My question is .. can a vent for say a bath tub be located in the opposite direction the drain pipe will run...

For instance .. lets say you have a tub in the middle of a room and the drain is running south to the main stack ...

Could the vent pipe be located a few feet to the north of the drain ? as oppossed to being somewhere along the drain line?

Thanks for any answers and will post some kind of pic if needed...

here is a rather crude sketch of what I mean .. the vent is connected to the drain but really on its own seperate line up to the attic ..

just wondering if this is legal and able to be done ...

We are convering a room into a bath and the drains will run across the entire room with no place to vent up exvept the wall opposite of where the drains are going ..if that makes sense...

I guess I always assumed the vents tied into the drain line somewhere along the path the waste water flows .. in this case it would not due to the fact the first place to go up is farther than the 6 or 8 feet code allows ..

none of this is to scale...

Thanks
