I currently have two toggle switches in a small 1/2 bathroom.
switch 1-operates the sink vanity light
switch 2-operates the bathroom exhaust fan.

I would like to change out the bathroom exhaust fan for an exhaust fan/light combo. Is it possible for me to have:
switch 1-operate both the vanity light and exhaust fan light?
switch 2-continue to operate only the fan?
If so, can this be done easily, without having to run a wire from the exhaust fan light to the vanity light first?

Any help is appreciated. I can wire the exhaust fan/light combo to just toggle 2, but need the light on much more often than the fan.

Thanks in advance.

Good question, maybe. It would depend how many wires are in the cable between fan and switch... and how power from the breaker enters the system. A lot of builders will give you the spare wire between fan and switch. Any chance you can post photos of what's inside the switch box now? And if possible the fan box? We're concerned with the back of the box; don't unhook anything.

not likely,

if there is a 14/2 wire going from the switch box to the fan (which most likely there is)....that wire would have to be replaced with a 14/3 wire

or your other option would be to run a 14/2 wire from the current light, to the fan,

it might help if you take pictures of the wiring at all 3 locations

Sounds like I need to open things up and get pictures. I am changing out ceiling fans and lights in other rooms right now, so will get to picture taking when I can.

Seeing as this is builder grade set up from over twenty years ago, I may be out of luck.

Thanks for replying and stay tuned for pictures.
