Basic Switch Wiring ??

719 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  CosmicMiami
I have a switch box (2 switches) with a feed coming in. There are separate feeds going to the light and an exhaust fan. The prior electrician (termed used loosely) had three way switches on the fan and light. It was wired such that either the light would work of the fan would work but neither simultaneously. He also had the neutrals switched.

I need to rewire this :censored:

After isolating which hot and which neutral go to which device, how should I wire this with two switches that are independent? Do I need a jumper? I just can't seem to wrap my brain around the proper configuration.

Thx.

Take the hot wire (black) coming in from the feed and pigtail (i.e. use a wirenut) it to 2 black wires one going to each switch. This will give each switch its own independent power.

Done. Thanks. That's what I was figuring but wanted to make sure. I tied the neutrals together. Works like it should. Now on to the next one that the idiot did incorrectly.

What's the standard on length of stripped wire in a wire nut?
