I need some advice on installing heat in a finished basement. I was thinking of going with electric baseboards (220V) or fan force wall mount electric heating. Which of the two would be better to install in a finished basement? Are there any other options for me without going through a big demo job?

baseboards are almost 100% quiet vs the noisy fan of the other unit. baseboards will provide a lot more even heat. fan unit is good for special apps where the baseboards won't work. baseboards cannot be blocked by drapes or sofas etc so you need to figure out what furniture, walll units, tvs etc you want to place against the walls and go with a fan unit if that is a problem. you may be able to take some heat runs of the furnace but I like baseboards better for the ability to have heat when the furnace is not running on sunny days plus you can shut them off when not downstairs and use the furnace for better purposes (upstairs).

Thank you all for your input! I guess I will be looking for some electric baseboard heating. Although gas is a nice option, I don't think it would be possible without me breaking walls all over the place.

You can explore installing furnace ducts or forced hot water lines (whichever is applicable) to the basement room. This will generally result in a lower heating bill compared with electric baseboards or electric fan forced units.

The disadvantage is the need to set up separate zones (or open and close louvers upstairs) depending on when you want more heat downstairs.
