I am in the process of planning out a small basement bathroom. I have an existing floor drain that is only 12" from the main stack and is already in a good location for the shower drain. Will the main stack serve as a vent being so close to the drain? Can I use the floor drain for the shower drain? In Utah if it matters.
Instead of making a chopped up shower why not just install a shower on a wooden base then just indirectly drain it to the floor drain? Make that area a linen closet to keep access to the floor drain in case you need to open it up at a later date.
Planning to put a wall-hung toilet to the left of the stack and reconfigure the cleanout near the floor (where the ABS is currently going into the stack) to accommodate the toilet, the existing ABS and leave an accessible cleanout.
Ive gone to houses which in the basement that had a raised floor, fully plumbed for a bathroom tied into the cleanout in the base of the stack. This is definitely a handyman special but its very possible to do. I would do this instead of indirectly draining the shower into the floordrain.
Thanks, everyone, for the advice and suggestions. I'll get the sledgehammer and do it properly.
