I am in the process of planning out a small basement bathroom. I have an existing floor drain that is only 12" from the main stack and is already in a good location for the shower drain. Will the main stack serve as a vent being so close to the drain? Can I use the floor drain for the shower drain? In Utah if it matters.

Instead of making a chopped up shower why not just install a shower on a wooden base then just indirectly drain it to the floor drain? Make that area a linen closet to keep access to the floor drain in case you need to open it up at a later date.

Or just use one of these http://www.mustee.com/product-lines/shower-stalls/
I had considered draining it indirectly to the floor drain. Just want to make sure it's 'legal' to use the floor drain as the shower drain.
