Basement is framed: closed cell foam installed... And time for drywall:

I was dead-set on Mold Resistant stuff; but I've been told by two different contractors it's not worth it (they said that the plaster is more expensive to install and more prone to cracking). A few other guys (more handymen than drywall installers) didn't question me.

So: what would you do? I want to trust the experts, but peace of mind is nice too...

If your going to use plaster us blue board. As long as the basement is dry and well insulated which it sounds like it is. Then regular would be OK. But if you want the mold resistant to make you feel better by all means go for it. I have used a lot of it and never had any problem with it. Of course I just finished it with drywall mud not plaster.

Thanks. The more I think of it: the more I wonder: I have wood studs, so wouldn't mold be an issue with those as well? Or is drywall just more susceptible?

Could you tell me the real difference between plaster and mud? Just curious....

Drywall is a little more prone to mold if it gets wet. The paper is like a mold buffet, but if it's dry it's not any problem.
Plaster and joint compound are different compounds, plaster dries harder than mud, and plaster is usually used to cover the entire wall where mud is mostly used just on the joints although it can be used to skim coat. The mud is usually just a thin coat where the plaster is applied quite a bit thicker. In my opinion the mud is a lot easier to work with.
