As i am slowly finishing my basement , i was wondering if anybody here has any good ideas for a basement ventilation system.

As my basement is 70 -80- % underground with poured basement walls , i was wondering a good way to add some ventilation.

I have presently no HVAC system in my house everything is electrical baseboard heating.

I have no water / moisture problems .

Just would like to refresh the air i guess .

I read about some products but found this

Any ideas ??

Depends on where you live and if you have a open basement. Exhausting air requires bringing it back in and if you live in a cold climate you may want to recover the heat from the exhaust. You can get a small HRV. You need some ductwork and I would take some of the air from upstairs. Lifrebreath makes the best units IMO and have been around since the mid 70's. I have a 155 Max. A 95 may do you well.

Not DIY freindly to install so you need a contractor to set it up and balance it properly. You can read on their site about how they get installed.

Crack window open as needed - can also put an exhaust fan if there's a bathroom down there. hrv is an expensive proposition unless you need it for other reasons.

don't ventilate when its humid out, makes things worse.

even a musty or stale smell can be caused by excess humidity.

Thanks guys,

I don't have a bathroom down there but was actually thinking of installing a bathroom fan in the center of the room on a seperate switch.Turn on as needed.
Maybe on the wall instead of the actual ceiling due to low ceiling ?

That lifebreath 95 looks good as well.
