Hey! I’m chasing my baseboards to this beveled type with matching shoe mould. The baseboards are taller than the stair skirt. I want to put the shoe moulding up the stairs and to fill the space btw the first step and tile. Wondering if anyone has suggestions on how to navigate this?
Yikes. About all you could do with that is miter the baseboard and create a triangle so that the top edge pitches down toward the skirt and meets it at the same height... it would create sort of a little V of painted wall above where they meet.
Better than my first thought... you could also experiment with notching the baseboard around the skirt so that the top edge would die into the top of the skirt.
Then play around with coping the shoe molding out to lay over the base to make it appear to bisect the top part of the base profile.
I'd have to make a mockup to see how that would look.
Wow shortening the height of the base board didn’t even cross my mind! What a good idea. Would need to ensure an even across the length.
Thx for suggesting to kill the baseboard with a triangle piece, there is a gap btw the stair skirt and wall. Might be weird to just add shoe there right?
Or use a multitool to cut your skirt back (plumb cut) a few inches so that they DO meet at exactly the same point, or so that the skirt is taller than the base is.
Depends on if you really need to trim the top edge of the skirt or not.
