I have a 30"x50"x3/4" granite slab that I would like to use for a table. I'm thinking of putting 5/8" plywood underneath (20"x40"?) and before glueing the granite on top, inserting a few T-Nuts for this type of metal legs:

  1. Is this going to be sturdy enough, or should I make a frame/base out of hardwood to screw the legs into first with more bracing/support? (Granite is ~200lb)
  2. Are t-nuts my best option if plywood will work, or is there some thing else I should consider, and is 5/8 plywood thick enough?
  3. Anything to consider when cutting the plywood size, aside from wide enough for the legs, not wider than granite?

Don't know why but the forum says my answer is too long.

Short and sweet, your legs will not work. Stone is brittle. Plywood is flexible. Also the recess nuts you want to use is too little to connect the two parts firmly. Search "granite table" and look at the images for better supporting bases.

Thanks, I'll look for other options. Either an old metal base or make a complete hardwood base.
