i have a small porch roof framed minus 2X sub fascia and 2X4 barge rafters.

i'm wondering how to go about laying out the cuts for the barge rafters so that they butt against each other to cover the end grain of the ridge? if i use my rise/run and don't factor in the ridge thickness, they will leave little triangles of ridge exposed and the plywood won't plane in properly.

only way i can see making it work is to raise them up past the ridge and then cut the points off the barges flush with the top of the ridge.

or, if it's easier, i can cut the ridge flush with verge rafter, and install lookouts. but i see this option taking more time.

overhang is only 6" so i don't see a problem with only ridge and sub-fascia supporting the barge.

The barge rafter points will stick up above the ridge board if you nail the barge rafter to the end of the ridge. Are you not going to run a fascia board over the barge rafter?

yes, i am using a fascia board over the barge.
the problem is the eaves are already cut to the right overhand, but i accidentally cut the ridge 1 1/2" short (otherwise i would just butt the rafters to each side of the ridge and be done with it).
looks like i'm doing lookouts...

This may not be the way to do it but I would block on each side of the ridge and nail the barge to the blocks. The decking should give some support no wider than the overhang is.
