In my back yard i currently have bricks down to form a patio area. They are getting old and heaving and there is grass now growing in between them.

I had planned to build a deck there but due to other expensives that have came up thatproject has been put on the back burner for at least a year.

I want to tear the bricks up, fix the issue with the grass growing up and put something new down. I wanting something that is decent looking, you can walk on in barefeet. I plan on covering this area with a deck in the next year or two so I don't want to spend alot of money on this.

The area is roughly 16'x16'.

How badly are the bricks heaving? A weed whacker in Between the bricks can take care of the grass growing up in between. I don't see much sense in investing in new materials for an area that is going to have a deck in a year or two. They sell outdoor carpets for not too much money that can be placed over the brick patio that would be easy on bare feet.
