I'm fixing up some poorly installed drywall that was done in my bathroom by a previous owner. All the corners look like drywall was slapped up, gaps or not, a thick layer of joint compound on all seams, and a quick layer of tape thrown over the mess, gap or not. no top coat or feathering at all. I'll bet the paint was done before the joint compound dried. Hack city.
Anyhow, I'm pulling out the bad tape and working on getting backing into the corners. There is one corner that isn't so easy, shown in the picture. There is a big gap in the corner. If one of the drywall panels went all of the way into the framing corner it'd be fine, but of course they don't. There is a 3/4" by 3/4" void between the corner studs and the drywall edges.
Anybody got a neat trick as to how to back this corner? Only easy thing I can think of is to fill it in completely with drywall compound, wait for it to dry and shrink, hit it again, then tape.
